Having enjoyed a colorful stream of hospitality positions, from dolphin trainer to VIP Chief Concierge to Assistant Adventure Manager for Disney Cruise Line and later Land Discovery Manager for Azamara Club Cruises, Alejandro Ayala Cuevas joins the team at Garza Blanca with a smile as your Activities Manager. Born in the Mexican city of Guadalajara, he has called Puerto Vallarta home now for some 15 years, having traveled the world during his time working on cruise ships.
Garza Blanca Signature Residences Sales Manager, Nicole Martin took some time to interview Alejandro.
How are the activities at Garza Blanca different from other hotels in Puerto Vallarta?
Firstly, we provide a customized schedule that is uniquely tailored to our surroundings and our members and guests. As a Five Star resort, with Five Diamond status for the new Hotel Mousai, we receive high-end clientele who expect and deserve the best. Being located on a nature preserve, we can offer members and guests totally unique experiences for free, like hikes to rivers and waterfalls on site or bird watching tours. Likewise, our location close to Los Arcos rock formation in the bay means we can schedule kayaking or paddleboarding trips and even snorkeling excursions. Our green-fingered visitors may also be interested in the botanical garden tours where they will see the official Puerto Vallarta flower growing on site. There really are lots of wonderful activities.
What do you hope to bring to the position as Activities Manager?
I have a number of goals. One of my goals is to create a Kids Club that offers a one stop activity center for children, maybe even including a tree house. There is already a special program of activities during the major holiday seasons with extra activities for children which I hope to develop further. In the meantime, I will be making sure that we continue to offer diverse and seasonal activities to keep our members and guests of all ages enchanted by our 85-acre community.
Describe one occasion where you have delivered extraordinary service for that “wow” factor.
Well, one recent event that touched my heart was a birthday turtle release. Late in the turtle season, we found 85 turtle eggs and we happened to have a large number of children staying with us and one was celebrating his birthday. So, we arranged for the children to aid in our conservation efforts, helping under strict guidelines to release the baby turtles on the beach, watching the hatchlings run off into the sea at sunset. We finished the event with a celebratory birthday piñata in our kids pool area.
What is your favorite activity at Garza Blanca and why?
I love our hiking tours. We have an extreme and a medium option. The extreme hiking tour is longer and is an awesome experience as we finish our high speed hike with a plunge in the preserve’s natural waterfall.
What inspires you about working at Garza Blanca?
It is an honor to be part of such a high quality resort in such breathtaking surroundings. I love my new activity team and all the staff, and the way they put service as a number one priority. As a team, we always find a way to solve any inconveniences and to help our members and guests access the experiences they desire. The natural surroundings of the jungle and beach offer so many opportunities and spaces to work with, bringing new adventures every day.
