If you have ever reserved a penthouse or are an Elite Member, you have most probably already enjoyed the pleasure of meeting Garza Blanca’s head butler, Jose Manuel Valenzo Cuevas, otherwise affectionately known as simply Valenzo. A wise head on young shoulders, at 27 years old the proud father of three young daughters serves members and guests with a touch of subtle elegance you would be forgiven for thinking was a thing of the past. Originally from Chilpancingo, in the Mexican state of Guerrero, he has been living in Puerto Vallarta for more than 20 years and has more than a few recommendations up his sleeve.
What does the role of Butler at Garza Blanca involve?
My daily duties involve following up on the requests of Elite members, other VIPs and celebrities or those reserved in one of the penthouses. Even before my allocated guests or members arrive, I get in touch with them to check their preferences and the things they want upon arrival, and then I make them happen. I stock the “goodies,” so to speak, which is the fun part. I’m in charge of making those wow moments shine.
Where can members find you?
I can be found on my extension number, which I provide upon arrival when I greet my allocated members in the lobby. Along with the assistance of my Elite concierge team, I make regular checks on how they are doing in their suites, to make sure they are not missing anything.
How did you find yourself working as a Butler?
I was promoted to butler a year ago after working as a manager in the restaurants. I realized then that sometimes our guests need help with more specific needs and I just love trouble-shooting challenges. It makes me so happy to find solutions to our guests’ needs, no matter how difficult or complex that request may be.
What are the best things about being a Butler at Garza Blanca?
The best thing is forming close relationships with my guests, and feeling as though I have truly contributed to their experience. I also enjoy being rewarded for my excellent attention by seeing the smiles on their faces and their contentment. I love the cultural exchange with people that come from all over the world. I feel like I am constantly traveling to new places while I am right here at the most beautiful place in Mexico. I am constantly learning.
How have you made one ordinary experience an extraordinary one for members?
One time I helped a lady that had an accident outside of the resort. I escorted her to the hospital and I held her hand throughout the whole recovery process which was two weeks. I tended to her every need while she was bedridden. I am still in contact with her, and we are now friends for life.
What is your favorite thing to do in Puerto Vallarta that you would recommend for members?
I love visiting the Marietas Islands because they are magical! You can take a great tour that includes snorkeling or diving as well as visiting the hidden beach at the center of the islands. Also, I love food and enjoy sharing my recommendations for the best places to eat in Puerto Vallarta. I can tell them all about the Mexican options like the taco stands and where the locals go.
