Down Puerto Vallarta

Scheduled for May 18th and 19th this year, the third running of Down Puerto Vallarta is an adrenaline-pumping spectacle that brings 40 world class stunt cyclists from around the world together in a competition of skills and style.

The inaugural edition of Down Puerto Vallarta featured a series of events that pushed athletes to the limit, including Slope-Style Downhill time trials and Freestyle trick-based competition. Over 20,000 people have attended this event each year, and so the narrow streets and alleyways in the foothills of the Sierra Madre will thrive with electricity during this extreme competition.

The planned course extends from the antennas rising over town down Calle Aldama toward the Malecon. This is right in the middle of the city, so tourists take note! It will be difficult or impossible to cross from the southern end of the city to points north using the main thoroughfares. It may even be difficult to navigate on foot in downtown Puerto Vallarta, and visitors traveling north to south should use the Libramiento tunnel road connecting the Zona Romantica with Zona Hotelera.

For those wishing to attend the event, the festivities begin with an exploration of the course on foot by the competitors in the early afternoon Saturday. This means that visitors seeking a front row seat for the practice rounds should claim their places in the streets of Centro by just after midday in expectation of a 4:00 pm start.

Sunday afternoon, the competition begins in earnest with warm-up runs and the time trial rounds starting around 3:00 pm. The Best Trick competition is scheduled for 7:00 pm, and is the main event of Down Puerto Vallarta. Past runnings have seen stunning feats of aerial artistry, including soaring jumps, acrobatic flips, and aerial turns all at high speed.

There’s practically never a wrong time to spend a week or two in this vibrant city, but these months are particularly packed with outstanding options for family fun. Down Puerto Vallarta is an especially exciting event that represents a real treat for the hundreds of thousands of locals that call the city home as well as the countless visitors that pass through each spring.
