Understanding the ins and outs of how your member time works is key to getting the most out of your membership.
In this article, we answer some common questions to help you plan ahead.
Seasons of your Membership
Your membership is divided by seasons, with each season requiring a different amount of points to reserve accommodations. The three seasons are: Holidays, Winter and Summer.
Holiday season requires the most points to book, Winter season requires less points than Holiday season, and Summer season requires the fewest points. There are a few other restrictions, which are outlined below.
Holiday season weeks are the most popular weeks of the year for members to travel, and these weeks are also the time of year when the resort is in highest demand, so it’s important book as early as possible. You might even need to book up to 24 months in advance. *
The Holiday season weeks are:
- Third week of February (President’s week or week 7)
- Holy week and Easter week (varies year by year)
- Thanksgiving week (varies year by year)
- Christmas week 51
- New Year’s week 52
Do you love traveling during the Holiday season weeks? Upgrading your membership is always a great way to ensure that you have enough points to cover your vacation during your preferred Holiday season weeks!
Winter season is the second most popular season for members to travel. Since there is also a lot of demand during the Winter season, it’s also best to book these weeks as far in advance as you can, as soon as you know that you want to travel.
The Winter season weeks are:
- Weeks 1 to 17 (Jan 1– May 5)
- Weeks 44 to 50 (Nov 3 – Dec 22)
Remember that Winter season excludes Holiday season weeks that fall within the timeframe.
One benefit of a points-based membership system is that even if you have only purchased enough time to cover a week during the Summer Season, you can still make a reservation during the Winter Season by applying banked, borrowed and accelerated points to make up the difference, or you could simply choose to stay for fewer days.
The Summer season is the season with the most open availability, and also requires the fewest amount of points to book. Summer in Mexico can make a great summer vacation while the kids are out of school or when you are ready for a change of scenery. You can also find the best deals and less crowds during the Summer season.
The Summer season weeks are:
- Weeks 18 to 43 (May 5 – Nov 3)
When traveling during the Summer season, remember that Mexican summer break from school runs from the end of June until the end of August, and many Mexican nationals are also traveling with their families during this time of year. So, when considering traveling in June through August, just make sure to make your reservation as soon as possible.
Summer season is also the time of year to use your Preferred Points or Gold Time to extend your stay or add an additional vacation to your yearly plan. Preferred Points or Gold Time are to be used during weeks 18-43, but they can be reserved up to 12 months in advance. Click here to view a weeks chart.
Tips to Optimize Your Membership for Peak Seasons
- You can make reservations in advance with your club points, so it’s best to book as soon as you know your travel plans.
- If you plan to travel with friends or family during the holiday or winter seasons, and you would like to book a large unit, please try to reserve as soon as possible, as the larger units tend to fill up first during peak seasons.
- We have periodic update meetings for members. It’s a good idea to attend those meetings and find out about how you can upgrade your membership to ensure you have enough points to match your desired vacation dates.
- Use your Preferred Points or Gold Time for summer vacations and save your annual allocation for use during Winter or Holiday Seasons.
* Weeks contracts are based on the season.
Remember to Bank Your Points
If you haven’t had the chance to take your vacation yet this year, and you don’t think you will be able to travel this year, don’t forget to bank your points by October 31st!
Unused club points can be banked and will accumulate towards your next year’s usage. You want to take advantage of banking your points, because having more points means that you can stay for longer or upgrade which unit you are staying in.
Biennial members have certain limitations on unit size upgrades and banking options. In addition to banking your points, you can purchase some extra amenities or services with our Points Redemption Program.
If you have plans to travel more than once in a year, banking points from the previous year is a great option as a way to store up points! Banked points can be used in any season except during the holidays (Christmas and New Year’s).
It’s also a good idea to bank your points every time you make a reservation, because your points can always be “unbanked” when you need them.
If you have an annual membership, your points will be banked for up to five years. Biennial members can bank points until the next use year.
Remember that points must be banked by October 31st, and you must contact Member Services in order to request them to be banked; they are not banked automatically.
Member Services can be reached at 800-852-4755.
