The 2019 Hot Air Balloon Festival will take place in Cancun at the Pok Ta Pok Golf Course on Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 21.

This is one the most anticipated festivals of the year. The name of the festival is “Volando El Paraíso,” which can be translated as “Flying Over Paradise.” It is a family friendly outdoor event that goes from 1:00 pm to 11:00 pm each day.

There will be at least 20 hot air balloons participating in the event. Weather permitting, the balloons will make “free flights,” which means the balloons will not be anchored, and they will fly around the Nichupté Lagoon. Otherwise, if the weather is inclimate for free flying, the balloons will be anchored, and they will rise from 15 to 20 meters above the ground. Either way they will be a spectacular sight to behold, and if you like, you can even ride in the balloons, which are piloted by professional experts who have flown in the biggest national and international festivals.

The balloon flights will be the main attraction of this event, but there are many more surprises taking place on the event grounds that visitors will also love!

Municipal Director of Tourism, Francisco López Reyes said, “This event arises from the need to create unique outdoor experiences, where culture, gastronomy and artistic expressions are combined in a variety of activities, integrated into the balloon show.”

To that end, there will be lots of activities for friends and family to enjoy, such as a 100-meter long zip line, an inflatable area, climbing walls, 700 kites per day, a bag race with awards by sponsors, a foam party and Mexican party.

There will also be music, a camping area, food trucks, children’s area, story telling area, magicians, trapeze artists, workshops for children focused on ecology, mariachi and fireworks. This is a big effort by many people to create an enjoyable experience for tourists and locals alike!

The director of the Pok Ta Pok Golf Course, Martín Martínez Alvarado, has taken care to ensure that there is enough space for the all needs of the event, including enough parking space and enough and toilets, as well as tents to protect people from the sun and the heat.

The entrance fee is 500 pesos, but children less than 1 meter tall get in for free! The cost per balloon flight is 250 pesos. This is really a bargain for a festival that will be a ton of fun for the whole family.
