Many of you are well aware that news reports about the safety in Mexico are often overshadowed by the unfortunate events that take place in particular regions in the country such as on the border towns and certain states. Therefore, we are happy to share the latest update issued by the US Department of State — Bureau of Consular Affairs which has removed popular tourist destinations such as Los Cabos, Riviera Nayarit, Cancun and Riviera Maya from its blacklist.
In its most recent Mexico Travel Advisory, the US Department of State — Bureau of Consular Affairs states that “There are no U.S. government restrictions for travel in Baja California Sur, which includes the tourist areas of Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo, and La Paz.” A similar message was issued for Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, the Riviera Maya and the state of Nayarit (which includes Nuevo Vallarta and Banderas Bay). Puerto Vallarta also continues on the list of cities where there are no restrictions for US government employees to visit. For the full report please click here.
It is worth mentioning that according to both the consular report and local perception, most of the violent crimes reported in Mexico are related to criminal organization assassinations and turf battles between criminal groups. We hope you will agree with us when we say that the areas where you can spend your vacations in Mexico using your club membership provide a safe and inviting atmosphere for you and your family.
The report also issued some sound security advice that you may wish to consider when visiting Mexico or any new destination to enhance your safety:
- Use toll roads when possible
- Avoid driving at night.
- Exercise increased caution when visiting local bars, nightclubs, and casinos.
- Do not display signs of wealth, such as wearing expensive watches or jewelry.
- Be extra vigilant when visiting banks or ATMs.
